Ant Infestations in Warrington, Knutsford and Lymm,.

by on Sep.02, 2010, under diy

Flying ants are the scourge of many homes in summer months leaving many people to fear the summer and the annual flying ants invasion which they expect the summer will herald

Only the unfortunates who have suffered it will know the true effects of flying ants in their own homes.

Having an infestation of ordinary wingless ants is bad enough but when they go through their annual mating phase the situation can become unbearable.

Ants regularly form colonies under the floors and in the wall cavities of our houses and these colonies will live for many years to come if left untreated becoming progressively more annoying as the years go on.

Our homes are warm and dry and provide the ideal places for a thriving ant colony; even solid concrete floor is not a barrier to an ant.

Our house heating systems keeps their metabolism even in the winter months and my earliest ant call-out was on my birthday, which is in January!

Ants prefer a sandy soil and there are lots of areas in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester which produce more ant callouts than most others, Southport, Blackpool, Bolton, Sale & Altrincham come to mind as regular ant locations.

Unfortunately it is during their mating period that they are most troublesome. Here in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester this often is pretty often around the middle of July.

Ants mate on the wing and sometime around mid-summer the colony releases winged immature Queens and winged males which in nature would fly off and mate whilst flying. Many thousands of these flying ants are released from each and nests tend to synchronise their production so that they mate with ants from nearby colonies.

Often this process starts after a few of days of hot, dry weather and will usually last for about a week although smaller releases will extend throughout most of June, July & August.

Unfortunately when the nest is built under the floor of the home the results can be devastating, literally thousands of flying are produced into the lower rooms, aiming for windows as they go towards the light.

This can be unbelievably distressing for some people leading to severe emotional upset to the degree that people learn to dread the summertime and have actually left their house to escape the plague of ants which they know comes each summer.

The poor summers of the last three years have meant that ant problems were down on the preceding but ants seem to have a way of catching up and 2010 could possibly be a particularly troublesome year.

Many people who have this problem try for DIY solutions with products from hardware stores etc but mostly these efforts are doomed to failure as they are not getting to the heart of the matter which is the nest itself, hidden away safely in the cavity wall or under the floor.

Fortunately for a lot of people the solution is at hand.

At Harrier Pest Control and Prevention (subject to local site) we are able to remedy this problem and give an extendable 3 year guarantee.

The treatment which is done mostly from the exterior of the home, is totally safe for animals and children and leaves no smell, involves drilling little holes into the cavity walls of the house, not unlike a damp-proof course injection and blowing a long lasting insecticide into the cavity wall under pressure.

This forms an impenetrable barrier through which the ants cannot move and along with a precautionary internal spray treatment (if deemed necessary) will slowly bring the ant colony to its end.

The holes, which are only 8mm in diameter are left open so it is an easy matter of topping up the cavities every three years to extend the effectiveness of the guarantee in 3 year periods.

This procedure is best done out in the early spring however it can be done all year round.

As a very limited time offer before our busy period begins we are offering 25 percent off the usual price until May 30 2010. Whilst we usually cover the whole of Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester, we are able to travel further afield but this will be reflected in the cost.
